Amazon Web Services (AWS) has signed James Gosling, also referred to as the “Father of Java”. Gosling took to Facebook on Monday to make things official and confirmed that he would be joining the Amazon’s cloud services.
Gosling will be quitting from his current role at Liquid Robotics where he designed software for an underwater robot.
James Gosling wrote in his Facebook post, “It’s time for a change. I’m leaving Boeing Defense (nee Liquid Robotics), with many fond memories. Today I start a new Adventure at Amazon Web Services.”
The ‘Father of Java’ came up with the original design of the Java and the first compiler and virtual machine when he worked at Sun Microsystems. After Sun was acquired by Oracle, Gosling quit Sun in 2010 and joined Google for a short term. Post this he was a Liquid Robotics which was then acquired by Boeing Defense, Space and Security.
Amazon has been on hiring spree and Gosling will join other tech heavyweights at AWS including Adrian Cockroft, Swami Sivasubramanian and Werner Vogels.
As of now Gosling’s role at AWS remains unclear but given his experience with Internet of Things (IoT), Amazon could keep him in charge of its AWS IoT, which is a cloud service for Internet of Things data.
