Reliance Jio has started rolling out its Fiber Preview offer in selected areas of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara. Jio has said that the service will also launch in other cities in a phased manner. Reliance, through its customer support ‘JioCare’ Twitter handle posted about the latest details, in response to a query. Jio is said to offer a minimum of 100Mbps for the home broadband consumers, and the plans will likely be priced at affordable rates. According to an earlier report in Teleanalysis, the broadband service could get unveiled in June this year. The report cited sources familiar with Jio’s plans, who had informed that the company is conducting various trials in many cities across India.
Following a deep impact in the telecom market, it seems that the home broadband market (fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)) should get ready to face aggressive competition from Reliance JIo. The news does not come as a surprise, as the company’s website has been featuring a mention of the Jio broadband and DTH services for a while now. Meanwhile, according to Jio’s plans, it will only take about a minute to download 100 photos (500MB) on Jio’s network. Time taken to download 100 songs (1GB) will be 2 minutes, while True HD movies (5GB) will be downloaded in about 7 minutes on Jio’s network.

Earlier, in September 2016, users had shared details about how the testing had begun in some select residential colonies in the city of Chennai. Several users posted invites by Jio, which invited them to become a part of the ultra-fast fiber home broadband tests. During that time, Jio’s Fiber service was rumoured to offer nearly 1GB per second speeds with its broadband internet for homes, according to previous reports.
Meanwhile, reports have suggested that even Vodafone India is also bent on entering the sector after acquiring wired internet provider YOU Broadband. If Jio and Vodafone enter the $2-billion wired broadband market, it will challenge the dominance of BSNL and Bharti Airtel. These two control more than two-third of the space. According to a report in the TV channel ETNow, Jio may also partner with video streaming websites like Amazon Prime and Netflix. Jio has already partnered with Indian video streaming website Hotstar, which will enable users to view the platform from their set-top-boxes.
